The international Red Box franchise started up in Hong Kong with a small karaoke establishment then known as California Red. Karaoke being an enduringly popular nightlife choice in Hong Kong, California Red was successful almost from its opening, but soon recognized the need to differentiate itself and in an increasingly competitive environment.

By the late 1990s, California Red had reinvented itself as Red Box, offering the same karaoke enjoyment its guests had come to expect in an improved, more refined atmosphere with great food, advanced technology, guaranteed security, and WiFi capability, setting the new standard for excellence in karaoke entertainment.

December of 2003 saw the opening of the first Red Box outlet in Manila, at the 3rd level of Greenbelt 3 in Makati City and has now expanded to the 4th Level of TriNoma, at the North Triangle, Quezon City.
