Post Title : Radio Operator
Contract : Six (6) months of appointment with possibility of extension
Type of Appointment : Service Contract
Grade Level : SC-5 (UNDP- issued contract, but on non-UN staff status)
Duty Station : Manila
Supervisor : Local Security Assistant (LSA)
Description of duties:
- Man the UN radio room and operate VHF, UHF and HF communication equipments
- Conduct daily search of local media for security incidents affecting humanitarian community
- Records security incidents on database
- Provide daily situation reports
- Conduct periodic radio checks and prepare report of compliance
- Track UN staff members traveling within the country
- Provide assistance through phone and or radio to staff members when needed
- Send emergency alerts through all available communication means when required
- Contact agency security focal points re matters affecting staff security
- Operate UN ID machine, computers, fax machine, duplicating machine
- Use UN premises paging system to broadcast evacuation procedures when needed
- Maintain in good order all radioroom equipments, gadgets, programs and files
- Issue radios to staff members
- Be amenable to extend working hours when required
- Be amenable to rotation of duties in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao
- Be professional in handling confidential matters
- Performed other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor
Working hours:
- Radio operators should be prepared to work a rotating shift of eight hours a day including weekends and holidays.
Supervision:
- Radio operators are operationally reporting to the Local Security Assistant
Qualifications:
- Graduate of any relevant technical training course (2-year program) or technical university degree.
- Computer literate (MS Office, MS Word, Excel, etc.).
- English proficient both written and oral
- NBI and Police Clearance
- Radio Operator’s License and at least two (2) years of experience in the use of Radio Communications Networks
- Ability and willingness to work in night shifts
- Dedication to the United Nations principles and demonstrated ability to work in harmony with persons of different national and cultural background; UN experience is an asset
- Personal commitment to peace and reconciliation
